Fall is a great time for fun, festivals, and food in KW! We’ve put together a list of some of this fall’s greatest local festivals and events – and some of them are completely free!
On Saturday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 48 locations across Waterloo Region will open their doors with children’s activities, music, drama presentations, walking tours and other special events! On September 18 from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m., this end-of-summer food truck picnic will feature a dozen food trucks, local live music and more outdoor fun in the green space (Civic Centre Park) between Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and Kitchener Public Library’s central branch.
Every month, community development-minded folks meet for breakfast or lunch to sit, chat, learn, and eat! This month, on September 21, the group will be meeting at Kava Bean from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., on the right side of the restaurant.
Coming up this fall, THEMUSEUM is running a series of Beer +… events! The first event will be Beer + Pokemon GO at THEMUSEUM and B@THEMUSEUM on September 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be lures, and over 10 Ontario Craft Brewers, plus food from The Bruce Caboose. Each ticket includes a free sample glass, two beer samples, and a snack!
On September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Kitchener City Hall will be filled with over 60 local vendors for the third annual Etsy: Made in Canada event! It is sure to be a fun day of shopping and community building.
On September 28 starting at 6:30 p.m., the second Beer +… event will be Beer + Survival. You’ll learn the knots (rope knots?) you need to know in a survival situation, and make your own paracord bracelet with a built-in firestarter to take home. Each ticket will include your supplies for the paracord bracelet, one pint from Descendants brewery and access to THEMUSEUM’s exhibits before the event!
On September 30 to October 2, the second annual Culture Days weekend will take place, and feature thousands of free, hands-on, interactive activities, throughout Waterloo Region. Culture Days will invite the public to participate and discover the world of artists, creators, heritage experts, architects, curators, designers and other creative people in the local community! On Saturday, October 1, starting at 12:00 p.m., the biggest and best KW Zombie Walk and Halloween Expo will begin at Kitchener City Hall! There will be Halloween vendors, family-friendly activities, costume contests, flash mobs, amazing makeup and face painting and more! All proceeds from the makeup table will be donated to The Canadian Women’s Foundation.
On Wednesday, October 19, head to THEMUSEUM at 6:30 p.m. to learn about the world of physics, quantum 101, followed by physics trivia. Dr. Shohini Ghose will also be giving a presentation, and be sure to check out QUANTUM: The Exhibition while you’re there. Each ticket includes the lecture and trivia, access to the exhibits before the event and one pint from TBA brewery.
On October 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Kitchener Public Library will be the second annual DIY Festival. There will be local businesses, guilds and community partners there demonstrating their skills and ideas, plus workshops throughout the day in the theatre. There will be activities for all ages, interests and skill levels. The event is completely free and no registration is required!

On November 5 and 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 1:59 a.m., Downtown Kitchener will be filled with free pop-up art, performance and placehacking on the night the clocks roll back! See the Night\Shift website for details: nightshiftwr.ca.
Wed. Nov. 23 | 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. | THEMUSEUM
On November 23, starting at 6:30 p.m., THEMUSEUM will be filled with activities and beer once again, as participants join Living Fresh Flower Studio and School as they learn to make their own holiday wreath. Each ticket includes the materials to make one holiday wreath, access to exhibits before the event begins, and one pint from Creemore Springs!
